Original Rescue Tarp (Professional and Heavy Duty Use)
** MADE TO ORDER** Note: Side panels in this batch will be DARK BLUE (see color swatch photo).
Rescue Tarps are an essential piece of gear for backcountry skiing. This multi-purpose tarp/sled can be used as an emergency shelter or bivvy sack if you need to spend the night outside, and can also be used to package an injured patient and slide them to out on the snow to definitive medical care.
This tarp/sled is designed to maximize durability while remaining lightweight. Ideal for avalanche instructors, guides, outdoor professionals, avid skiers, and those who love durable gear. This is not the lightest tarp/sled on the market, but it will stand up to routine use when used properly, unlike other ultralight models, which are designed for a single or minimal use.
Proper usage is required to ensure the longevity of this equipment. This product is designed to be used according to American Mountain Guide Association Ski Guide standards. If you need instruction or are unsure of how to use this tarp/sled, please email sewalpine@gmail.com or reach out to San Juan Expeditions. We will have a demonstration video in the coming months!

EVACUATION USE:
This tarp/sled is designed for winter use with skis, according to AMGA guidelines. It should not be dragged over non-snow surfaces. Skis/splitboards are used inside of the tarp for rigidity. Other items like backpacks may be used instead, but may compromise rigidity.
Use skis/split skis WITH SKINS ATTACHED inside of the tarp/sled in the webbing cage. Attach skins so that the skin sits over the outside edge of the ski, in order to protect the tarp from tearing.
Be sure to appropriately pad and insulate the patient from the cold as well as from bulky ski/splitboard bindings.
Use small webbing loops to attach optional straps or cord for packaging the patient.
Use large webbing loops for hand loops.
For towing, attach a rope or cord to the three long loops at the feet and/or head of the patient.
A rated harness and appropriate belay MUST be used in addition to the standard setup when lowering or raising a patient or moving over complex terrain.
